IRENE IVES
Irene has been engaged in ceramics and visual arts for over 40 years. She produces and sells her work by appointment from her home studio in Colwood, BC. She is a member of the Metchosin Artpod artist collective and her work is often featured in the Artpod Gallery. Irene is a member of the South Island Potters Guild, participates in Victoria’s TD Paint In, has been an instructor at the Cowichan Hub Clay Collective and is a founding member of the Shore to Shore Pottery Studio Tour Committee.
Irene employs a variety of handbuilding techniques and Cone 6 oxidation or alternative firing processes to produce decorative and functional ceramic pieces. Her work is about layers, texture, patina, erosion, accretion -the pieces are imperfect, and irregular, reflecting the ever-evolving surfaces and forms found in nature. She continues to be fascinated by the archival qualities of clay and the relationship between this medium and humans over time. Her process purposefully includes evidence of the maker’s hand and she strives to create pieces that beg to be touched and handled.
Irene regularly posts on both Instagram and Facebook. To view her work, or commission an item, DM Irene through either site to arrange an appointment:
