ABHAY PATIL
Abhay has been making pots since 2015. While going for a bike ride around his former home in Pacifica, California, he stumbled upon a humble, handmade sign that read, "Clay Creations". Intrigued, he returned home, looked up their website and decided to take his first pottery lessons. Since then, he has immersed himself in this ancient art form.
He continually enjoys learning and finds the possibilities that come along with clay endless. In recent years, his focus is on functional pottery. To Abhay, the form and function take precedence over the aesthetics. While the goal is to bring form, function, and aesthetics together, a poorly made pot will show no matter how beautiful the glaze is.
Over the years he has increasingly sought out atmospheric firings for his pottery, with a focus on soda firing, and wood firing. The results of these atmospheric firings can be so stunning and are impossible to reproduce. To Abhay, the unique and beautiful character of these kinds of firing is a celebration of life and the uniqueness that comes with it.
